Bellaphone One Year On: Anniversary Special

As this month is NONAGON.style’s first birthday, we are looking back over the projects we first featured a year ago to see how they are doing one year on. One of our featured makers last year was musician and designer Jordan Waraksa with his striking Bellaphone speaker collection.

We got in touch with Waraksa to find out about Bellaphone news and updates, and what new projects have come to fruition since our last conversation.

Tell us about how the Bellaphone is getting on!

Last year was a great success with the Bellaphone. We made a custom commissioned set of large Bellaphones made from whiskey barrels for the Google HQ in New York in July.

In August, because of the eco-friendly process and reclaimed material we use for the production of the Bellaphones, we were accepted into and curated into a sustainable luxury brand from Paris. We then exhibited at NorthModern in Copenhagen with great success!

In September we were involved in another international design exhibition at IDS West in Vancouver where we sold another set of Bellaphones to a gorgeous modern home overlooking the bay.
Our newest pieces of the collection are in the works right now and headed out west shortly to places like Aspen and San Francisco. A conference table [I am working on ] is not going to be made from barrels, but the newest works incorporate a charring and casting processes with urban reclaimed lumber!  The images will be up on the site in a few weeks.

As well as crafting items in the workshop, Waraksa is part of a band, The Vitrolum Republic. We wondered how the band is getting on, as the nature of music and the Bellaphone building process is interlinked.

What have you been listening to recently; has there been anything that’s influenced your work?

Here are a few tracks I cant stop listening to, and I’m sure they have had an influence in and out of the workshop for me:
River by Leon Bridges

Fancy Man by Devendra Banhart

String Quartet No. 14 in Dm “Death and the Maiden” by Shubert

We just performed a sold out show at a beautiful concert hall here in Wisconsin, and I have been writing new material for an upcoming album. Our newest album is for sale and here is a beautiful video we made for the last song.
