Apricot to Tangerine and All the Orange in Between

We might not be constantly aware of it, but the color orange is widely occurring in nature. Mesmerizing orange hues are all around us – in foods, flowers and wildlife. It’s the color of a burning sky at sunset and sunrise, and the rich tint of the leaves during fall.

As such an ubiquitous color preference in nature, it is no surprise that we have been using orange in our art and culture for centuries. As a symbol of prosperity, orange features as a prominent color in flags and among royal families. For Buddhist monks and the Indian saints the color is worn to symbolize knowledge and austerity. It’s a badge of warmth, energy, vitality and good health, making it a great choice to use at home to boost a bit of positivity around us.

While it’s found outside the home easily, it’s not always our first choice for the house. This is a color series all about adding some pops of orange to your home decor.

The color orange signifies warmth and celebration, hence having it at the entrance of your home will send out positive vibes. Also having such a bright and beautifully colored front door will add a cheerful look to your home exterior. It’s also a pleasure to look at, and if you have a front garden, it will be a pretty view among all the greenery.

For smaller apartments a room divider, like the one in this picture below, will add a whole lot of brightness to the room. If placed right across from the window, it will fill your home with sunshine.

Living Room

Assuming most of us like to keep our walls neutral in color, a bright colored couch is the ideal way to amplify style and decor at home. This sofa shows off with stunning visuals and great contrast. Having it right next to the window is a perfect way to brighten up the space. Putting an orange armchair anywhere in the house will make that corner come to life. For extra wow factor, pair with complementary blues.

Dining Room

The list of orange foods available is extensive, which makes it a great choice for sociable dining room decor. But rather than painting your walls in this bright hue, try adding some orange colored chairs instead. Orange is a versatile color and easily pairs with a lot of lighter and darker shades, including the wood tones. So it should be easy to find the right shade for your dining room.

Also, rather than buying new furniture, don’t forget that old chairs can be upholstered to give them new life (and to give your dining room a budget-friendly makeover).

Dressers

Repainting old dressers is another easy way to add some bold tones to your home. Try painting an old bookcase or cupboard in bright orange and add it as an accent piece to your living room decor. If it sounds too bold, you can balance out the brightness by adding soft furnishings and complementary colors around it. It is beautiful to notice how this bright tone enhances the colors of everything around it.

Ottoman

Changing a huge item like a couch is a big investment, and a long term commitment. If you are not looking to change things around right now, a new ottoman could be a quick and easy way to bring new colors to your living room. Adding some new cushion covers to match the bright orange ottoman will tie things together and revamp the entire look and feel of the room.

Orange also signifies self confidence, so what better color to boost your spirits in the early morning than this bright and beautiful tone! Cover a small area with orange colored tiles to add a fresh look to your bathroom. It does put a smile on the face, doesn’t it!

Bedroom

We often opt for cool muted tones in the bedroom to keep things simple and calm. But once in a while it’s fun to switch it up a bit. Blankets and duvet covers are an easy way to change the mood in the bedroom. Paired against stone grays or pistachio neutrals, you can go for an earthy orange. It’s a great choice because it works well in both summer (think sun!) and winter (think pumpkins!).

Nursery

Orange is a friendly and adorable color for decorating children’s roooms, and as a symbol of prosperity and well-being set your baby off to a good start. However, considering that bright walls or furniture could be a bit too distracting and the opposite of calm, opt for something like an orange rug. It provides all the positive energy for playtime, without being a beacon of bright at night.

Porch

Orange is a fun color for outdoor decor. It creates a light and refreshing look, and will look stunning with some plants or a garden area. In summers it’s cheerful, and in winters it creates a warm atmosphere; that is the beauty of orange. It might just be the thing that motivates you to get some fresh air and exercise early morning!
