Apartment Vila do Conde

Photographer:

This duplex apartment is on the third floor of an old 80s building in Portugal. The young family who live here are excited to make this space their own, carving out the perfect home for their different activities. Wishing to create something simple with clean lines, this is the Apartment Vila do Conde; let’s take a look around.

Straight into the living room, we see the project was about reorganizing spaces and redefining the environment. In this dining area and living area, we also have the piano here making the space an open plan area for the family to play, relax, eat, and live together. The room faces south, and there is access to the balcony.

Big cabinets make storage easy in this family home, with the television carefully contained and the room made easy for this family with two children and a dog. Throughout the home you’ll see strips of lighting creating striking lines of intrigue.

The dining table fits in well with the room; sturdy gray chairs with Scandinavian natural-wood vibes, set on a soft muted gray colored rug.

One of the most complicated and striking elements to come of the renovation is the staircase. Designed to work as book storage, it’s a unique take on stairs and even provides a home for the dog.

The two daughters share the attic bedroom, which is simple and functional – perfectly tapping the design brief on the nose.

From the Architect:

Upstairs, the space was transformed into the private room for the two daughters, with a bathroom, a play room inside the closet next to the stairs and the bedroom with two beds lit with skylights facing the south.

The bathroom uses vinyl flooring, in the same hue but with a different texture for the bathroom.

From the Architect:

In the bathroom, the shower, the basin and the counter-top were designed and custom made in Krion. The walls and ceilings was covered in plasterboard boards painted in white that define the plans and reinforce the continuity with the carpentry lacquered with a high gloss finishing.

With the intention to reorganize the space and redefine the environment into something contemporary yet minimal, architect Raulino Silva gives us a modern Portuguese home where storage and simplicity make it a welcoming space.
