Each year brings some new, exciting trends to the table, but 2018 has really outdone itself this time. If you’re bored with the pastels, and the simple tones of minimalism just aren’t enough for you, then you’re going to love this one.
Today, metallics are far from extravagant; they’ve slowly seeped into our color palettes little by little and before we knew it, they became the new neutral. You’d be surprised just how many ways there are now in which you can impeccably implement these colors into your home. If you’d like to glam up your space a bit with the gentle bling of metallics, read on.
It’s All in the Details
If you want to add metallic tones to your rooms but you’re not sure whether you will like it, take small steps first. The easiest way to introduce metallics is through decoration. Bring in a vase or flower pot in your favorite metallic hue (or even in multiple hues) as accents throughout the space. It’s a simple but attractive touch to any design.
Another easy way to involve metallics in your decor is by picking out shiny metallic frames for your photos and art. Any metallic hue works for this but if you’re aiming for a vintage look, antique, gold frames are your best bet. You can also find decorative pillows with metallic details.
If you’re ready to embrace the metallic trend in its entirety, it’s time to add some bigger shiny pieces to your home, such as a chrome coffee table or a large overhead fixture that can become the focal point of your room and elevate its style effectively.
If you are a bit handy yourself, you can even DIY your own metallic elements. Get some high-quality metallic paint and give a new life to some of your old pieces. You can, for example, paint your old coffee table’s legs gold, refinish a worn-out side table or basically any other furniture piece, or glam up some cute knick-knacks with that paint to add your personal finishing touch to the room.
A New Perspective
If you feel like your interior really needs a breath of fresh air and you’re tired of its look no matter how many new decorations you add to it, repainting it might be the way to go. But forget about plain white; here, you can really experiment with exciting options if you let your imagination run wild. Regardless of whether you decide to go for soothing pastels or a bold, bright colour, you can find the perfect metallic shade to go with your choice of hue.
Think about designating one feature wall in your living room where you can introduce amazing metallic wall art, or similar colors. Combining an indigo base with grayish silver will fit an industrial-style interior perfectly, while a gold stenciled pattern will give a beautiful, lavish look to your pastel-colored walls.
You can also find different wallpapers with metallic details, so you have plenty of options to choose from depending on the style you want to go for. Keep in mind, though, that if you want to achieve a truly seamless look, it’s best you turn to professional painting services instead of trying to DIY it; it is more time and cost-effective.
Shiny Kitchen and Bathroom
Of course, the living room is not the only space where metallics can find their place. Who doesn’t want a luxurious-looking bathroom that makes you feel like you’re in a five-star hotel? You don’t even have to make a big investment.
Today, you can find bathroom fixtures as well as accessories in virtually any metallic hue. As little as changing your taps and shower head and adding a mirror with an intricate frame in your choice of metallic color will instantly change the whole atmosphere. If you have a freestanding bath with claw feet, then another affordable solution perfect for you is using some metallic paint and refreshing its look by repainting its feet. This year, brass and copper are certainly popular choices, as well as the beautiful muted rose gold.
The kitchen is another perfect subject for a metallic makeover. Similarly to the bathroom, you don’t have to break the bank. Just change your tap and get new hardware for your cabinets in the same hue, and you’ll easily achieve a cohesive look. If you want to go a step further, you can change your entire sink, redo your backsplash with a metallic finish, or opt for metallic lighting fixtures that match the rest of your design. These ideas work especially well if you’re aiming for a modern, minimalist look.
Metallics are truly everywhere now so don’t be nervous to try the look out. As you can see, there are endless options, so you can go as big or small as you like. Be it your kitchen, bedroom, bathroom or living room, the sparkle of metal gives a much-longed for glam to your home. For me, there is only one rule: shine!
