You’ve been to the happiest place on Earth, but have you ever seen the happiest home on Earth? If you’re a fan of all things Disney or a self-proclaimed Potterhead, you’ll be in awe of this family’s dreamy home in Golden Oaks, Florida. Situated within the Walt Disney World Resort, this family of four built their dream Disney home from scratch, with the help of builders and designers J. Richard Watson, who specialize in custom luxury homes.
With two young boys, the couple brought their imagination to life to create a home straight out of their favorite Disney stories. From a steampunk home theatre to a Beauty and the Beast-inspired bedroom, here’s a tour of one of the most magical homes you’ll ever see.
Inspired by their love of Tudor-style houses, the entire house is clad in colorful brickwork and warm pitched roofs. The home features a spacious layout, with two garages, and a private heated swimming pool.
From a distance, the home enjoys views of Magic Kingdom and Epcot. The family regularly watches the theme park’s stunning firework displays from their lookout.
The family spends most of their time hanging out in the living room. With a floor filled with toys, the couple regularly watches films, reads books and plays games with their two boys in the space.
Fitting of the home’s Tudor exterior, the family room takes cues from countryside cottages – laid back, colorful and warmly-lit.
Harry Potter-Inspired Kitchen
Being avid fans of the famous magical movie and book series, it’s no wonder the homeowners incorporated elements into their home decor. One standout is a trick from the Harry Potter; the Mirror of Erised, is actually a hidden door leading to the pantry.
Of course, Harry Potter’s iconic pet owl Hedwig makes an appearance on the glass stained windows.
To complete the rustic look of the Harry Potter-inspired kitchen, a chandelier of candles float above the room, just like the ones in The Great Hall at Hogwarts!
Beauty and the Beast Library
No one can forget the moment Beast gives his entire library to Belle – a gesture of love bibliophiles can only dream of. So naturally, the family decided to convert what was supposed to be a formal dining room space into a two-floor Beauty and the Beast-themed library.
The library features textiles in the blue shades that Belle wears. Corbels supporting the wooden beams feature carvings of Beast’s head. A spiral staircase connects the two floors, giving the library that dreamy enchanted look.
Steampunk Home Theatre
The home also features a steampunk home theatre inspired by pirate airship interiors.
There are pipes, valves, elements of (safely!) exposed metal, moving fans and galaxy inspired windows. For seating, they placed two striking red velvet cabriole sofas.
Spiral Staircase with Slide
When the idea of installing a slide in the home came up, the designers initially assumed the homeowners wanted a slide that went out to the outdoor swimming pool. But that’s not what they meant! The designers were able to honor the homeowners’ request by building a slide that runs alongside the staircase.
The master bedroom comes straight out of a fairytale with an elegant headboard and an arched alcove.
If you look closely, there’s a red rose by the stained glass window that hints at the room’s theme.
The master bathroom is usually where the kids take their baths, especially since the space is fitted with a big television.
Mickey Mouse Bedroom
Like true-blue Disney fans, the kids’ bedroom walls are clad in Mickey Mouse outlines complemented by a recessed ceiling in the shape of the iconic mouse.
