7 Home Libraries That Bookworms Will Be Envious Of

Hands up if you'd choose home libraries over swimming pools any day!

Born and raised in the UK, Jess is NONAGON’s resident historian turned marketer turned writer, drawn to Hong Kong by the lure of dim sum breakfasts and bustling city life. A foodie who loves to cook, food occupies 70% of her brain 90% of the time. When not eating, Jess can typically be found buried in a book or obsessing over making NONAGON’s Instagram #feedgoals.

For some people, their dream house features a swimming pool or state-of-the-art movie room taking pride of place as their decadent luxury item. For a self-confessed bibliophile like myself, the home library is where it’s at. Unfortunately, urban city living is not quite accommodating to my bookworm needs, leaving me to live my booklust dreams vicariously through the keyhole of Instagram. Today I’m sharing my absolute favorite inspirations with you.

Read on for a round up of envy-inducing home libraries, as spotted on Instagram.

French Country Chic

Shelf after shelf of books piled high into the gabled rafters is a must when it comes to the perfect home library.

I love the farmhouse aesthetic of this space. It feels almost nostalgic in a way. Wouldn’t you just love to while away a summer’s afternoon here?

Play It Cool

After the books themselves, the second most important home library feature has got to be the seating.

Whilst the humble armchair or sofa are obvious go-to’s, the dream home library would go one step further with an elevated net hammock. In this cool and contemporary space, you can quite literally ‘hang’ out with books all day long.

Quick Study

The artfully haphazard ‘styling’ of this home library is reminiscent of my college professors’ offices.

What I like about this home library is that it feels both elegant and inviting at the same time. This is no doubt thanks to the heavy antique furnishings anchoring the room, which work to inject into the space both warmth and sophistication in equal measure.

Out of the Blue

Proving once again what a versatile hue blue can be is this home library meets dining room.

Shades of blue perfectly highlight the details of the Braquenié tree of life panel. Overall, the finished look boasts a luscious vibrancy and sumptuous panache.

Cabin Fever

If, like me, you’re obsessed with #CabinsofInstagram, then you’re going to fall head over heels with this next home library.

Dark wood floors and wood paneled walls dominate the space, but the well-placed skylight prevents any feelings of oppressive claustrophobia. Carved furnishings round out the wood-themed aesthetic.

Wash and Go

You know your book obsession is real when you make your bathroom double up as a home library.

Although this setup is a little unusual, I actually think it works. After all, a soak in the tub is the ideal accompaniment to a captivating read.

A Nook of One’s Own

Fantasy homes aside, a grand library room might be out of the question for most, but that doesn’t mean the dream is over.

Here, spare landing space has been transformed into a contemporary stair-side reading snug. All you need are some shelves and lots of cozy cushions for instant library vibes.

Would a library feature in your dream home?
