Most designs are born out of need, or the vision to reinvent; so it’s fascinating when a design has a deeper meaning to it. For instance, the intriguing concept of duality is around us in so many ways, even in home decor. In this feature, we take a look at hand blown glass vases with a unique touch.
Designed by Studio EO,Indefinite Vases are a captivating representation of duality as complementary forces. The two parts that form the vase explore the relationship between rigid geometric and soft organic forms. Through the project, the two forms pair up beautifully and result to stunning sculptures that can take center-stage in any setting; even if not used as vases.
The designer has explored various formations, using sharp edges of marble to support the delicate glass. It looks like the vase would otherwise be meaningless and roll away without the base to rest upon.
The craftsmanship of each piece is exceptional. The designers use a beautifully colored marble base complemented with a white, black or plain hand blown glass vase. All combinations work so well, with the pink and white combination being one of our favorites.
This also reminds me of Yin and Yang, where duality is not seen as opposing forces but as complementary, interconnected and interdependent energies. Similar to a flowing river that gushes through the gorge, the marble base show structure, while the glass vase soften the bases’s sharp edges. This virtue brings out beauty in all forms narrated perfectly by these vases.
