If you need a break from the stresses of everyday life then look no further than the feel good Netflix hit of the summer, “Queer Eye”. What started as a show on Bravo in the early noughties got a recent rebirth. And now with two seasons under its belt, and a season three in the making, there’s no denying that “Queer Eye” is a bona fide, runaway success.
What’s It all About?
The show’s participants get full makeovers from five loveable gay men who assist them in everything from how to dress sharply, to how to feel more confident when mingling at social events. There’s also a segment that involves home makeovers (our favorite!).
Given their expertise in all things interior, fashion, food and grooming, it’s typically the show’s Fab Five cast members who are looked to for inspiration. However, in this round up, we’re going to be taking a cue from the show’s subjects instead. Ahead, here are four home technology accessories we love – as inspired by the participants of Queer Eye.
Inspired by Hector D.
Episode: Hero on Wheels (Season Three, Original Series)
In season 3 of the first iteration of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”, the OG Fab Five help veteran soldier, Hector – a wheelchair user who fought as a soldier in Iraq.
Any self-respecting Queer Eye fan knows that an episode doesn’t get too far along without the all-important fashion makeover. With this in mind, my home tech pick inspired by Hector is the Storage Motion Automated Wardrobe Lift. This piece lowers closet rails at the touch of a button, making it easier to reach stored apparel at any height. This gadget is especially great for anyone who often avoids hanging things on the uppermost sections of a closet because of impaired accessibility.
Inspired by William Mahnken
Episode: A Decent Proposal (Season 2, Reboot)
With rave reviews for its top picture quality and sleek aesthetic, Bang & Olufsen’s BeoVision Eclipse is a pick that would fit right in at the home of William Mahnken, the dedicated movie buff from season 2 of the “Queer Eye” reboot.
The BeoVision Eclipse features the latest 4K HDR OLED screen technology and the world’s best TV sound, leading to a highly immersive and memorable viewing experience. All the better to watch Mahnken propose to his girlfriend Shannan Eller in the climax of his episode. Spoiler alert – just in case you were wondering, she said “Yes!”.
Inspired by Neal Reddy
Episode: Saving Sasquatch (Season 1, Reboot)
Interesting fact alert: Antoni Porowski, the Fab Five food expert, revealed that Neal was one of the most challenging people on the show. That was partly because Neal found it hard to make eye contact with people, but also because his abode was covered in dog hair. So much so, that the fluff masqueraded as a second carpet!
Keeping the carpet clean as a pet owner isn’t easy, but this robotic vacuum cleaner from LG makes the task much simpler and less labor intensive. It even works with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, enabling you to control the gadget with just your voice. Because this vacuum works with a smartphone app, you can start cleaning the house with it even if you’re not home. Meanwhile, a video feature in the app lets you see the gadget as it works.

Inspired by Bobby Camp
Episode: Camp Rules (Season 1, Reboot)
In “Camp Rules”, we meet Bobby, Vera and their six children. During the part of the show where the participants learn to cook, the family gets tips on how to make chili – everyone’s favorite comfort food.
While there are many ways to make chili, my preferred method is the one which requires the least amount of effort. As I’m sure it is for Bobby who works more than one job, and only sleeps a few hours per night! Enter the Instant Pot. A versatile all-rounder that’s fully programmable, this multicooker incorporates the benefits of a Pressure Cooker, Sous Vide, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Sauté/Searing pan, Steamer and much more. It’s no wonder Instant Pot is the number one cooker brand in the US!
