With the season of love almost upon us, I’ve jumped on Cupid’s bandwagon with gusto and, in the process, fallen completely and utterly head over heels for all rooms which radiate romance. Saccharine color palettes, vintage furnishings and decadent textures have brought my flirtations with functional minimalism and sleek Scandi to an abrupt end. And though it’s true that the cool kids of interiors might well woo me back in time (hey – the heart wants what the heart wants), for now, at least, the thrilling frills and fancy of romance have my heart completely. Keep reading for a round up of my favorite romantic interiors to see why.
A Wabi Sabi Kinda Love
Distressed vintage furnishings set against a rose tinted backdrop of dusty pink – it doesn’t get much more romantic than this.
I love how Chan + Eayres have imposed a contemporary twist on romanticism here, proving that even the most Marie-Kondo-minimalists of the world can afford to have a romantic streak. To get a similar look, make sure to use a palette of cool toned pinks paired with unexpected tones of robust blacks and heavy woods.
For the Love of Luxe
Ornate mirrors are a mainstay of romantic interiors – the bigger and more antique, the better.
There’s something about an antique mirror that makes it equal parts magical and nostalgic. After all, it’s no coincidence that mirrors have been central to many fairy-tales and folklore myths. I love how this one works to open up the hallway in this Edwardian country mansion. Pair with sumptuous drapes and a lavish chandelier for the ultimate luxe factor.
A Royal Fancy
If romance was epitomized into a room, then this would be it.
This beautiful dining room draws inspiration from neoclassicism with its damask print wallpaper and chairs, antique dining table, and faded Persian rug. Despite the dated design elements, the overall neutral aesthetic keeps the space feeling timelessly classic.
In addition to bewitching with sight, a romantic interior should also charm through texture.
Silk, satin, faux fur and velvet are all suitably romantic choices to enchant the senses. If you can’t go all out with a statement piece (like this simply divine plush millennial pink sofa), play with smaller accessories such as silk trimmed cushions or a faux fur throw.
Hopelessly Devoted to Bloom
Proving that a little bit of romance can make even the most basic of rooms downright enchanting, this small powder room packs a punch with a bold floral print wallpaper that instantly transports the occupant to a botanical wonderland.
