If the way to the heart is through the stomach, then an all-out romantic feast is a Valentine’s Day no-brainer. Whether you’re planning to woo your sweetheart, or wanting to show your galentines some love, you can never go wrong with food. But on Valentine’s Day, of all days, what matters nearly as much as the food is the accompanying decor and environment. If you’re serious about celebrating the day of love, then it’s time to step up your game by setting the mood. Here, I’ve compiled the ultimate guide to the romantic table setting to help you do just that.

Start With Flowers

Remember when I said not all tablescapes need a floral centerpiece? Well the exception to this rule kicks in on Valentine’s Day, when all romantic tablescapes most definitely do.

For an intimate meal for two, opt for a scattered mix of small bouquets and single stems so the overall look is more casual and laid back. As for the type of flower, anything goes as long as they’re fresh!

Think Pink

When in doubt, always opt for pink, be it blush, coral or fuchsia.

In fact, why not throw caution to the wind and incorporate all the shades into your tablescape, layered together to create a saccharine dream.

Add Candles

Would it really be Valentine’s Day without candles?

Whether in tealight or stick form, candles are a mood setting fail safe. There’s just something about that candlelight glow…

Play with Bunting

For added impact, consider putting up some bunting.

If you’re short on space, try hanging floral garlands behind your dining chairs. Otherwise, go all out and criss cross layers of bunting across the room for a whimsical vibe that is sure to bring a smile to your loved one’s face.

Heart It

Finally, what better way to show off your love than putting your heart into your tablescape (literally!).

Heart-shaped plates, heart-printed cutlery, heart-folded napkins, the sky’s the limit. Sure it may be a little on the nose, but Valentine’s Day is no time for subtlety. Wear your heart on your sleeve (or your tablescape) with pride!
