Jess loves good design! She spends her weekends exploring the sights, sounds and architecture of the world. Another favorite activity is taste-testing local delicacies.

Let’s face it, we all need to hit the mental refresh button from time to time, and there ain’t nothing better than a spa day to help with that. Think soothing water sounds and ambient lighting, steam rooms and saunas. Don’t you feel relaxed already? If only we had the time to make every day a spa day!

Well, as it turns out, you actually can. Ahead, I’m letting you in on the secret to transforming your bathroom into a luxurious spa sanctuary. This is spa bathroom decor at its finest –  sauna not included I’m afraid.

Spa Bathroom Decor

Back to Nature

Spending time in the great outdoors is a scientifically proven method of rejuvenation. And since spa days are all about the renewal of mind, body and soul, it makes sense for spas to employ lots of nature-inspired design elements in their interior aesthetic.

From wood accents to rattan accessories, nature-inspired elements are an easy way to get that spa day look on lock. If you’re feeling especially fancy (and if space allows), why not opt for a small water feature? The calming rhythms and ripples of running water can induce relaxation even after the most stressful of days.

Flower Power

We’ve talked before about the powerful air filtering qualities of plants, and about how they simultaneously increase oxygen levels whilst removing toxic chemicals. In other words, for their purification properties alone, flowers and all things green are a go-to accessory when it comes to spa bathroom decor.

The best plants for spa bathroom decor are going to be the ones that thrive in a low light, high humidity environment. English Ivy, Bamboo, Orchids and Spider Plants are ideal. The Eucalyptus plant is also a good choice for a luxury spa bathroom vibe; its leaves, coupled with the shower steam, evokes a lovely and fresh clean aroma which works to balance the senses. If you’re low on space in your bathroom, consider bringing in a hanging planter for your array of lush greens.

Down to Earth

Sticking with the nature theme, you may have noticed that most spas favor a neutral color scheme of warm earthy tones. This helps to set a calming ambiance, perfect for relaxation.

If you’re working with a smaller bathroom, light neutral tones are fantastic for making a space feel open and airy. Stick to an overall monochromatic palette, with design accents and decor accessories in varying shades of the same color, in order to create the impression of even more space.

Set the Mood

Lighting can make or break a space, and your bathroom is no exception. When it comes to spa bathroom decor, you’re going to want soft mood lighting that falls on the darker side to encourage relaxation. Harsh fluorescent lights are a big no no in a luxury spa bathroom.

Consider installing recessed lighting, spotlights or wall sconces to achieve that cozy glow effect. Alternatively, dimmer controls can give you the option of both a brighter light for the morning and a softer look for night.

Mind Your Clutter

Clutter is the visual epitome of stress. That’s why luxury spas prefer to keep things clean, tidy and streamlined, hiding their beauty products and other toiletries in discreet drawers and cabinets.

To get the look in your own spa bathroom, purge all unnecessary products from your surfaces. If you must have products out on display, make sure they all have the same or similar packaging, or invest in some decorative dispenser bottles to ensure everything is cohesive – this will at least reduce the visual clutter.

Come to Light

A good spa should provide a feast for the senses. Relaxation and rejuvenation is a full body experience after all, making candles and aromatherapy diffusers a must have for spa bathroom decor.

Rustic pillar, votives and delicate tea lights are all welcome in a luxury spa bathroom. If you’re concerned about the safety aspect, electric vapor or reed diffusers are a worthy alternative. As for scent, ylang ylang and neroli are perfect for before bedtime, whilst tea tree is the best for revitalization.
