The simply stunning Villa Zenyara made headlines earlier this year as the holiday rental that hosted Bella and Gigi Hadid during Coachella. Even without the models in tow, the house is gorgeous to look at.
The home owner is a quiet person who was looking for a zen getaway home. Driven to create an exclusive private destination property with the ability to host large parties, the Villa Zenyara is a place to have friends round for parties or even to let them hang out on their own and take part in all the different sporting activities. Spread over the 40 acres of desert paradise the home sits on an artificial lake. There are views of water from every room. You can play water sports, golf, tennis, paddle ball, pickleball, basketball, horse and bike riding. That’s just outdoors!
The architect team Uberion and interior designer Dorothy Willetts have designed a welcoming place to relax. You’ll notice the laid back island aesthetic, drawing on relaxed fabrics, art and ceramics from Bali, the Congo, Caribbean and South Pacific.
The one story residence looks out over an artificial lake that visitors can swim or kayak around. In only six weeks Willetts furnished the interior and outdoor spaces, including the master suite, six guest bedrooms, a great room, expansive kitchen and dining area, entertainment room, spa and bar, along with four special casitas where guests stay. Every room has views of the artificial lake, making it really feel like indoor outdoor living.
From the great room you get a beautiful view of the San Jacinto mountains. Furniture is relaxed and inviting, perfect for a calm summer vibe. Many of the furniture pieces were custom made, like the iron console tables.
The sectional sofas and following swivel chairs are from A. Rudin, creating a cozy space for hanging out, relaxing and entertaining.
Willetts enjoyed getting thoroughly involved with the project, custom designing many elements of the home. One example is the Asian tree trunk table designed and made to match pedestals cut from rough textured limestone blocks. The hanging wall art pieces were designed by Willetts made from Kuba cloths from the Congo, hand stitched onto linen and framed in ipe wood.
The open space of the entertainment room made it the perfect spot for the foosball and a ping pong table. It’s easy to clear the space away for other uses too.
The ceramic display in the office features accessories from Bali, which look striking against the wood and custom wall texture.
Dorothy Willetts described the master bedroom as her favorite room to design, thanks to its high ceilings. She worked to create something cozy and intimate.
The great height and size of the rooms did present lots of challenges, too. It was necessary for many of the items to be custom designed, to make sure that the room was balanced and perfectly proportioned.
“In order to not compete with the views, I chose a subtle color palette with accents of red throughout the home. The proportions of the furniture pieces were carefully designed so as to not disappear into the expansive rooms.”
In the spa room we get to see a unique display with antique corn mills clustered on the wall. The timeless chaise longues are by Gloster, and seem perfect for the location. Just the right spot to sit back with an icy drink.
As if that’s not all, take a look at this recessed fire pit and seating area which instantly has you dreaming up your own weekend away!
The homeowner and his friends were absolutely blown away by the magic and beauty of the Zenyara Villa. So much so that the house has been nominated for this year’s Golden Nugget Awards for houses over 8,000 feet.
