February is breezing past and that means there’s a whole new line-up of international design events we can attend to soak up all things architecture and interior design. This month, we travel from all the way up north in Finland to South Africa to discover innovative design, and gain new perspectives on building homes, furniture as well as creative expression. Here are three international design events you should keep an eye on this February.
Modernism Week, Feb 15 – 25
Palm Springs, California
Celebrated annually as a platform for mid-century modern architecture, interior design, fashion, art and culture, Modernism Design Week takes place every February and hosts around 350 events – including trade shows, home tours, immersive films, lectures and parties. With so much history of modernist design in the region, the Modernism Week is a must-attend for designers and enthusiasts alike.
This year, watch out for:
- Meet and greet and book signing with authors
- A tour of Frank Sinatra’s neighbourhood
- Multi-sensory dinner theater experience
Arctic Design Week, Feb 19 – 25
Known as the Arctic Design Capital, Rovianemi opens its door to host the international design scene for a 7 day festival featuring design talks, workshops, exhibitions, pop-up stores and gastronomic delights. Discover what it means to make homes livable in cold climates by participating in all Arctic Design Week has to offer.
This year, do not miss:
MISHMASH, a contemporary conference that offers entrepreneurs and design professionals from all over the world a chance to connect through an opening night, inspiring seminars, activities and workshops that give you the authentic Arctic experience, and a mentoring session for entrepreneurs.
Design Indaba Festival 2018
Feb 21 – 24, Cape Town, South Africa
Design Indaba gathers the most creative individuals in Africa and the rest of the world in a four-day event filled with opportunities to innovate, express creativity and celebrate social impact design. With a mix of music, conference talks, exhibitions and performances, Cape Town comes alive to welcome established brands and design professionals from around the globe.
This year, watch out for:
- Award-winning film-maker, Afrofuturist and director Sunu Gonera’s discussion on the creative representation of Africa and its stories
- A talk by renowned product designer Tom Dixon
- Live music performances and exhibitions at the Artscape Piazza
